The synchondrosis between the greater horn and the body of the hyoid bone: a radiological assessment

D. S. MacDonald-Jankowski
King's College School of Medicine and Dentistry, London, UK.

The synchondrosis between the greater horn and the body of the hyoid presents as a vertical radiolucent line, which may be mistaken for a fracture. The incidence of its presence on dental radiographs was assessed in two age groups. Since it is a normal feature in many hyoid bones, especially in the younger age group, it is important to identify it as such.
